Chapter 10

“Well, well, well. I never thought I’d see the day that the good Reverend would be willing to part ways with his golden goose.” Pastor Dozier couldn’t hide the kool-aid smile that was creeping on his face.

“Look Ron, you know how I feel about Jew-I mean Dr. Dawson. She’s lovely and we’ve made a lot of money together but that’s no longer enough. I need more money and I need it now!” Pastor Jones wiped at the sweat beads that had begun to form on his forehead.

Pastor Dozier knew why he needed the money. He had heard the rumors but didn’t believe it until he saw it for himself. Pastor Jones was slipping and he was becoming a liability to all those around him; however, Dozier wanted to destroy queen Jewels. He wanted to knock her off of that pedestal and he needed Jones to help him do it.

“Ced, I’ve already told you how we can make twice the money Reverend Dawson promised without having to deal with her.”

Pastor Jones’ face lit up when he thought about how much money he stood to make if he followed Dozier’s plan. “I know but I don’t want anybody to get hurt. I just want to make more money. Maybe I should just talk to Jew-um, Dr. Dawson and figure out some more numbers.”

“No!” Dozier pulled a white substance out of his pocket and sat it on the table. Jones reached for it but Dozier snatched the rock away.

“You want this don’t you?”

Sweating profusely, Jones slowly nodded.

“You can have it but first you have to promise to cut all ties with the Reverend Doctor Jewels Dawson. Do we have a deal?”

Jones sat silent.

“Do we have a deal?”

Again, silence.

“Ced, nobody is going to get hurt. Just their wallets.” Dozier laughed, and Jones slowly smiled and held his hand out for his treat.

Dozier handed it to him and he lit his pipe immediately. Jones inhaled the vapors, and Dozier watched with a smile on his face. Pastor Jones had just signed his own death certificate.
